Mount Pleasant-area Body Shop Leads the Way With Conversion to Environmentally-friendly Refinish Coating
Krapohl Ford Lincoln Mercury, a leading Mount Pleasant-area new car dealership and collision repair facility, announced it has transitioned its shop to waterborne basecoat from solvent-based systems in anticipation of new air quality regulations. The body shop is now using the AWX™ Waterborne Basecoat System from Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes Corporation (SWAFC), according to Mark Smith, Krapohl General Manager. *
SWAFC recently introduced AWX, an innovative waterborne basecoat system that utilizes a proprietary resin technology which allows it to behave like the solvent borne systems of today. AWX was designed to be an easy-to-use, high-quality color coating that provides excellent color match and offers up to a 96% decrease in VOC emissions compared to other solvent borne coatings.
“We are very pleased to switch to this new coating system and will continue to give our customers superior results for their collision repairs as well as help to improve our air quality,” Smith said. “We didn’t switch because we had to, but because it’s a win-win situation; by transitioning to the new AWX system we’ve made a commitment to our customers and our community.”
”When we decided to switch to a waterborne system, choosing Sherwin-Williams as our refinish supplier was an easy choice,” he continued. “Not only did they offer an outstanding product line, but their knowledge and on-site assistance in training our technicians made this process a truly seamless transition.
“With our conversion to waterborne coatings we will continue to provide the highest quality repairs, but now in a more environmentally-friendly setting,” concluded Smith.
